Gas Line Information

If your gas line is leaking it may not be obvious right away. Natural gas and propane are

extremely flammable and can cause explosive damage to your home, property and to people in

the home.

These are the telltale signs of a gas leak:

R

Hearing Hissing Noise: Large gas leaks in pipes or appliances may produce hissing noises, even if the appliance is turned off. Check pipes and appliances regularly, listening for any hissing noises.

R

Rotten Egg Smell: Natural gas is odorless, however there is a sulfur like smell that is added to make it easier to smell.

R

Plants and grass are dying: Grass, Shrubs, or Garden are dying no matter what you do, gas may be the culprit.

R

Excess Condensation on your windows: If there is more moisture than usual on your windows, it can be a sign of problems with your gas line.

R

Health Issues: Family or yourself suffering with nausea, headaches, dizziness, fatigue or fainting can be caused from gas leaks.

R

Higher than normal gas usage/gauge: If your natural gas bill is higher than normal or your propane is running low faster than normal, it is a sign that there is a gas issue.

R

Air bubbles outside your home: Natural gas leaks can also occur in underground piping outside the home. If you see bubbles in standing water – including puddles and mud – it may be a sign of natural gas dispersing through the soil and into the surrounding air.

What to do if you have a propane gas leak:

  1. If you think/know you have a gas leak, TURN IT OFF at the propane tank valve by turning it to the right. Then, call your propane company to make sure that it is not an issue with the tank.
  1. Absolutely no flames or electricity: Do not use open flames or electricity while waiting for propane replacement. This could spark a propane explosion, which can cause serious injury or death. Do not even flip an electrical switch.
  1. Get everybody out: Evacuate your home or business until propane specialists have taken a look. Do not re-enter the property until the specialist has given the all clear.
  1. Know when to call the professionals: Never attempt to seal a propane leak with household materials like tape or glue. Not only is this dangerous, but it is illegal in Texas. If you detect propane gas leaking from your propane tank, do not attempt to repair it yourself. We at Marburger Plumbing Services are licensed with the Railroad commission to repair propane gas lines as well as Natural gas line.
